When You're Seriously Injured, the Lawyer You Choose Matters

There are plenty of ways to advertise a law firm.

You can put your face on a billboard. Run television commercials. Buy advertising online. These days, you can even make a video hoping thousands of people will watch it.

Several years ago, we decided to start making videos at Hasty Pope. But we had something different in mind.

We wanted people to get to know us.

Not just recognize our names or remember seeing our faces somewhere. We wanted people throughout Cherokee County, Hall County, and the rest of North Georgia to understand who we are, what we've spent our careers doing, and why this work still matters to us.

Because when someone in your family is seriously injured, choosing a lawyer suddenly becomes a very important decision.

And we believe you deserve more information than a billboard can give you.

A Serious Injury Changes the Conversation

There's a difference between being involved in a minor accident and suffering an injury that changes your life.

We've represented people whose injuries kept them from working, required extensive medical treatment, or left them wondering whether they would ever feel the same again.

We've also sat across from families who had no idea what to do next.

The medical bills were arriving. Someone was missing work. The insurance company was calling. And the family was trying to make decisions about a situation they had never experienced before.

That's when experience becomes important.

A seriously injured person doesn't just need someone who knows how to file an insurance claim. They need an attorney who understands how to investigate an accident, evaluate complicated medical evidence, identify available insurance coverage, and recognize when an insurance company isn't offering fair compensation.

Sometimes that means negotiating. Sometimes it means taking a case to trial.

Knowing the difference takes experience.

What More Than 30 Years of Practicing Law Has Taught Us

Jon and Tom Pope have each practiced law for more than 30 years.

During that time, we've seen insurance companies challenge nearly every part of an injury claim.

They question whether the accident caused the injury. They argue that medical treatment was unnecessary. They point to old injuries or preexisting conditions. Sometimes they simply refuse to acknowledge how much someone's life has changed.

We know those arguments because we've spent decades responding to them.

In one Gainesville case, our client was injured in a rear-end collision. Establishing the full extent of the injuries required carefully reviewing medical records and working with physicians to document that the injuries were caused by the crash and were permanent.

In another case in Canton, a woman initially believed her arm injury would improve. Months later, she was losing feeling in her arm and hand.

The insurance company continued fighting the claim.

Ultimately, a jury returned a $1.7 million verdict.

Those cases involved different people and different injuries, but they illustrate something we've learned repeatedly: the insurance company's first assessment isn't necessarily the final word on what a case is worth.

The evidence matters. Medical expertise matters. And having an attorney who is prepared to keep going when the insurance company refuses to listen can make a tremendous difference.

Why We Started Putting Ourselves on Camera

We knew there were people throughout North Georgia who didn't know much about Hasty Pope.

Some had lived in Canton or Gainesville for years. Others were new to the area. They might have passed our offices or heard our name without knowing anything about the attorneys behind it.

We could have responded with more traditional advertising.

Instead, we wanted to have a conversation.

That's what these videos are supposed to accomplish.

We talk about questions people actually ask after serious accidents. What happens when the other driver only has $25,000 in insurance? Can you recover compensation if you already had back problems? What if the insurance company says your injuries weren't caused by the crash? Why is your case taking so long?

These aren't hypothetical concerns.

They're situations we've encountered while representing real people.

In one Gainesville case, we identified two uninsured motorist policies that provided a total of $350,000 in coverage after our client was injured by an uninsured driver.

In a separate Canton case, what initially appeared to be a $25,000 insurance policy turned into a much different situation when we discovered the driver responsible for the crash was working at the time. An employer's $1 million policy potentially applied.

Those are the kinds of experiences we want to share.

Not because every case will have the same outcome. They won't.

But because understanding what an experienced attorney actually does can help someone make a better decision when they need legal help.

Being a North Georgia Personal Injury Lawyer Means Something to Us

North Georgia isn't simply where Hasty Pope has offices.

It's where Jon and Tom grew up.

Both attended Cherokee High School. Their father, Judge Marion T. Pope Jr., devoted much of his career to Georgia's legal system. Our family's connections to this area go back generations.

Today, we have offices in Canton and Gainesville, serving clients throughout Cherokee County, Hall County, and surrounding communities.

Over the years, we've developed relationships with local attorneys, become familiar with the courtrooms where our cases may be heard, and worked with medical professionals who treat people recovering from serious injuries.

That familiarity doesn't guarantee a particular result. But it can be valuable when you're trying to navigate a complicated case.

And our commitment to North Georgia extends beyond the courthouse.

We sponsor local high school athletics, support first responders, participate in community events, and look for opportunities to give back.

You might see us supporting Cherokee High School, Gainesville High School, or a local community event long before you see us discussing a legal case.

We do those things because these communities have been part of our lives for decades.

We want to see them succeed.

What Should You Actually Look for in a Personal Injury Lawyer?

Advertising can introduce you to a law firm. It can't tell you everything you need to know about hiring one.

If you're seriously injured, there are questions worth asking before making that decision.

Has the attorney handled injuries like yours? Do they understand the medical issues involved? Have they taken cases to trial? Will they personally stay involved in your case? Will someone explain what's happening when you're worried about medical bills or an insurance company's latest offer?

Those questions matter far more than how often you've seen an attorney's commercial.

Consider a case we recently handled involving a seriously injured woman and a $950,000 insurance policy.

Before committing our client to additional depositions, expert testimony, and substantial litigation expenses, Tom contacted the opposing attorney and gave the insurance company another opportunity to resolve the case for the available policy limits.

Within two weeks, the limits were tendered.

That decision saved our client an estimated $30,000 to $50,000 in additional litigation expenses.

An attorney who has tried cases needs to know how to prepare for trial. But experience also means recognizing when a case can be resolved without unnecessarily spending a client's money.

That's not something a commercial can explain in 30 seconds.

It's something you learn by handling cases year after year.

We Want People to Know Who They're Trusting

We understand that most people don't spend much time thinking about personal injury attorneys.

And we hope you never have a reason to need one.

But if a serious accident happens, you may find yourself making decisions that affect your health, your finances, and your family's future.

You should feel comfortable asking questions. You should understand who will be handling your case. And you should know whether the attorney you're hiring has the experience to deal with the challenges ahead.

That's why we continue making these videos.

We want you to hear directly from Jon and Tom. To understand how we approach difficult cases. To see the work we've done throughout North Georgia and the communities we're proud to call home.

We've been helping injured people stand up to insurance companies for decades. We've seen what happens when people are treated fairly, and we've seen what it takes to fight for them when they aren't.

For us, that work has never been just about a case number or a settlement amount.

It's about helping someone get through a difficult chapter of their life.

And after more than 30 years, that's still why we come to work.

If you or someone you love has been seriously injured, Hasty Pope is here to help. Our personal injury attorneys serve Canton, Gainesville, Cherokee County, Hall County, and communities throughout North Georgia. We welcome the opportunity to hear your story, answer your questions, and explain how we may be able to help.
