Attorney William “Billy” G. Hasty, Jr. was recognized by the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce with the First Citizen of Cherokee County Award!

At the 49th Annual Meeting of the Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, January 23, 2020, Billy was granted the prestigious title of First Citizen of Cherokee County. It is an award given to “a resident of Cherokee County who has resided in the county for a minimum of five years and has shown significant meritorious service to his/her community through family, civic and/or religious involvement,” according to the Chamber’s website.

Billy is the 45th person to be named as a First Citizen of Cherokee County. He is a Cherokee High School graduate who has continuously served as a community leader. As well as providing counsel to local residents as a founder of Hasty Pope, LLP, LLP, he has represented the County, the City of Canton, the Cherokee County Water & Sewerage Authority, the Cherokee County Development Authority, and Empower Cherokee in various litigation matters.

In addition to his legal experience, Billy is involved in multiple organizations throughout the community. He is a Chairman of the Cherokee County Hospital Authority and a member of the Atlanta Civil War Round Table, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the historical societies of both Atlanta and Cherokee County.

In the past, he has served as President of the Riverview Cemetery Association, Chairman of the Reinhardt University Board of Trustees, Chairman of the Cherokee County Education Foundation, and Chairman of the Cherokee County Recreation Commission. He was a member of the Board of Directors of R.T. Jones Memorial Hospital, Kings Ridge Christian School, and Bank of Canton, and was selected for the University System of Georgia Board of Regents Foundation by Governor Nathan Deal in 2015. His additional honors include Cherokee County Education Foundation 2018 Alumni of the Year, the Dionne Warwick community service award, and membership in the Reinhardt University Hall of Fame.

The 2020 Chamber Board Chair, David Simmons, remarked that it was “obvious, based upon his accomplishments, why he was selected.” Congratulations to Billy on this distinguished honor!
